EAMCET 2014 Postponed to May 22 Due to General Elections

EAMCET 2014 scheduled for May 17 is postponed. This will be conducted on May 22. This was decided by higher education council yesterday. Election commission of India released the general election schedule a couple of days ago and according to it counting of votes is schedule on May 16. Education department officials are saying it is not possible to hold the exam on the next day itself taking into consideration availability of exam centers, services of invigilators is taken into account.

As EAMCET 2014 is now postponed to May 22, there can be slight changes in last date of submission of applications, announcement of results and so on. EAMCET online application process began on February 20 and till yesterday night nearly 67,000 students submitted their applications.

Apart from postponement of EAMCET 2014, another major decision is taken by higher education council. EAMCET engineering management quota seats are going to be filled irrespective of EAMCET and JEE-Main ranks but based on Intermediated marks. The proposal is sent to state government of Andhra Pradesh, requesting amendment of rules to this effect.

Seventy percent of engineering eats in management quota are filled under convener quota and the remaining under management quota. 15% of management seats are filled under NRI quota and the remaining 15% based on EAMCET and JEE-Mains ranks. Students who secured JEE-Mains rank in lakhs secured seats in engineering but the who got good ranks in EAMCET could not secure a seat in 2013. This was discussed in a special meeting yesterday and was decided that all these seats will be filled based on the marks in Intermediate.

Higher education council also announced that polytechnic diploma holders will be admitted into the second year of university engineering colleges. Till now diploma holders were admitted into the first year of engineering course through ECET. From the coming academic year, these students will be admitted in to second year engineering. This proposal also will be sent to the government. Polytechnic diploma holders will be allotted 5% sets in university engineering colleges.
