JNTU-HYD : Revised Guidelines for Question Paper Pattern and Weightage of Marks for UG/PG (R13) Courses

As a policy matter, the University has revised the Curriculum and Academic Regulations from the academic year 2013-14. The UG & PG programmes R13 Academic Regulations, Course Structure and first year syllabus were finalized and placed in to the JNTUH Website. Certain representations/suggestions from the students and faculty of JNTUH Affiliated Colleges have been received in connection with weightage of marks and question paper pattern for UG and PG Programmes.

In view of the above, the University has convened a meeting with the Chairpersons of the Board of Studies held on 31.12.2013 and the following resolutions are drawn:

PG Question Paper Pattern of R13 Regulations under 5.1 (End Semester Examination):
For the theory and Practical subjects 60 marks shall be awarded based on the performance in the End Semester Examination and 40 marks shall be awarded based on the Internal Evaluation.

Mid-term Examination: The mid-term examination will be conducted for 40 marks. Each Mid term examination shall be conducted for a duration of 120 minutes with Part A as compulsory question for 16 marks which consists of 4 sub questions and carries 4 marks each and Part - B with 3 questions out of five to be answered. Each question is evaluated for 8 marks.

Question Paper pattern for End Examination (Theory):

  • The End semesters Examination will be conducted for 60 marks which consists of two parts viz. i) Part-A for 20 marks & ii) Part-B for 40 marks.
  • Part-A is compulsory question where it consists of five questions one from each unit and carries/our marks each. This will be treated as Question 1.
  • Part-B consists of five Questions (numbered from 2 to 6) carries 8 marks each. Each of these questions is from one unit and may contain sub-questions. For each question there will be an "either" "or" choice (that means there will be two questions from each unit and the student should answer only one question)

End Examination Question Paper Pattern for PG Programmes.
UG Question Paper Pattern of R13 Regulations Under 5.3:
The details of the Question Paper pattern without deviating from the R13 regulations as notified in the website is as follows:
  • The End semesters Examination will be conducted for 75 marks which consists of two parts viz. i). Part-A for 25 marks, ii). Part-B for 50 marks.
  • Part-A is compulsory question which consists of ten sub-questions. The first five sub-questions are from each unit and carries 2 marks each. The next five sub-questions are one from each unit and carries 3 marks each.
  • Part-B consists of five Questions (numbered from 2 to 6) carrying 10 marks each. Each of these questions is from one unit and may contain sub-questions. For each question there will be an "either" "or'' choice (that means there will be two questions from each unit and the student should answer anyone question)

Further resolved to implement the revised regulations from the academic year 2013-14 onwards.

Hence, you are requested to give necessary instructions to the concerned Principals for the mid-term examinations already conducted and evaluated for PG programmes who are admitted for the academic year 2013-14 to be considered for 40 marks instead of 25 marks (by scaling).

However they may follow the mid-term evaluation as per the revised regulations from the next semester onwards.
